Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesha could be considered as the most endearing form of all Hindu deities. The term Ganesha stems from the root 'Gana' which means the hosts or troops of demigods especially referring to the retinue of Lord Shiva and the term 'Isha' means 'ruler' or 'lord'. Hence the term Ganesha means “the Lord of the demigods". Though his worship forms the most important aspect of one's daily pooja, His birthday, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated grandly with devotion and delight.
The Ganesh Pooja is the first major event of HSO for the fall semester. The pooja is generally kept on or closer to Ganesh Chaturthi, which is celebrated across India irrespective of religion caste and creed. The pooja is carried out with recital of vedic mantras, archana and offerings of fruits and flowers. The students who attend the pooja also end up singing songs and bhajans to embrace the occassion.
